What age should you start using an eye cream?

Ideally, it is advisable to commence some form of a skincare regime once you reach your 20’s as a preventative benefits and then in your 30s onwards for anti-ageing benefits.

As we grow older, we lose natural fat padding from the skin under the eyebrows. This causes the brows to appear droopy, especially on the outer corner, which can also make the eyes look smaller. Crow’s feet around the outer corners of the eyes become more apparent as we hit our 30s.

Drooping at the outer edge of the eyelid is also common, and it can give you a ‘beady’ look. The skin under the eyes is one of the thinnest on our body. As we age, it becomes thinner and more transparent, which in turn, makes the blood vessels underneath more visible.

The fat pads under the eyes begin to droop, leading to hollowing and puffy bags. Moreover, factors such as sun exposure, allergies, make-up removal and rubbing can cause hyperpigmentation. While lack of sleep, dehydration through excess alcohol and caffeine consumption, poor skin care and loss of collagen caused by smoking are also culprits.
